A friend of mine calls me an auto-sadist. Apparently I like to set myself up for situations that cause me frustration and suffering. It's true, though - why else would I be a writer? I find nothing harder than writing. To me, it's like having to breathe manually (sorry if you're all doing that now). However, like breathing, I also can't live without it. What a dilemma. I was born in Manhattan; half-raised in Westfield, NJ; half-raised in Seoul, South Korea; and now I attend college in the Greater Boston Area. I don't drink coffee or soda, love strawberries and Godiva chocolate, and my favorite video game of present day is (still) Undertale. Introducing a Writing Friend: August

March 24, 2018April 24, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

So if you go through the friends that I’ve introduced on this blog, you’ll find muses, artists, animators, (and soon) programmers – but you might have noticed that there weren’t any other writers. For all I love writing, I find it difficult to find writing friends – a strange blend of paranoia (that they may… Continue reading Introducing a Writing Friend: August

Life Tip No. 35

March 17, 2018March 17, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

People who have been on this blog a while might be noticing that I have skipped straight to Life Tip No. 35 without posting the first 34. They do exist, but some of those need to be re-evaluated before I post them to this blog because, as we all know, the internet is permanent, ahaha.… Continue reading Life Tip No. 35

Describing Writing Styles 1

March 7, 2018March 17, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

I recently fell in love with a writing style, and I came up with a metaphor to describe it. I decided that it would be a fun exercise to do this with various stories and authors that I’ve grown to love: Angela Carter – “The Bloody Chamber” It’s a small glass bottle filled with liquids… Continue reading Describing Writing Styles 1

Update: Getting the Hang of Things

March 3, 2018March 17, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

I’m really not a fan of how fast time goes by now that I’m older. God, March already… life is so short. I would have assumed I was too young to feel memento mori, but I really feel it bearing down on me. Perhaps it’s all the tragedy in the news – children younger than… Continue reading Update: Getting the Hang of Things

A Little Confidence

February 24, 2018February 24, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

Last November, on one particularly sleep-deprived night, I submitted a short story of mine to a competition. It wasn’t a polished work, and I hadn’t even read it over. I wasn’t entering to try and achieve anything – I was just being sleepy and impulsive. However, to my surprise, I made it to the Quarter-Finals… Continue reading A Little Confidence

Light Reading

February 17, 2018February 24, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

So the other day, I had the blessing of quite literally writing myself sick. I had a day to dedicate to writing, and I wrote for eight hours straight until I was in a state of derealization, which is objectively a bad thing, but sometimes I don’t mind. In that state, however, I can’t bring… Continue reading Light Reading

20 Questions You Never Thought Of

February 10, 2018September 7, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

On my Tumblr, I recently made an asklist of 20 unusual questions, and I thought that I would take the time to post all of my own answers to my blog, as I think it would serve as a nice snapshot of who I am at this moment in time. 1. If your favorite memory… Continue reading 20 Questions You Never Thought Of

Update: Burnout

February 3, 2018February 2, 2018 sablescm1 Comment

I was under the impression that my schedule this semester was freer than ever, but now I have been forced to face the unfortunate realization that I do, in fact, have physical limitations. To be blunt, I am exhausted. I got out of paying a train fare the other day because I fell asleep the instant… Continue reading Update: Burnout

Playlist Prompt 2

January 3, 2018March 17, 2018 sablescmLeave a comment

((I reorganized my Spotify last night, and I felt the urge to revisit this writing exercise I came up with a few years ago: I put my entire music library on shuffle mode, regardless of genre, and try to tell a coherent oneshot story using each song’s lyrics, mood, and or title to determine what happens… Continue reading Playlist Prompt 2
