A Poem: young gods

young gods inspired February 15, 2017, completed April 30, 2017

the era of creation done
inheriting the corpse of one
“your time to shine has just begun”
“your time to shine has just begun”

dogged by prayers full of tears
inheriting the people’s fears
“they’ve just grown weak over the years”
“they’ve just grown weak over the years”

promised glory, given gore
inheriting a world of war
“it worked for us in times before”
“it worked for us in times before”

and the younger gods, they bear the blame
in shambling times, they bear the shame
and no one will recall their names

no one will recall
